Map your beta.
Never forget a move.

Broken Crimp is a notebook for sport, trad and boulder climbers. Set the moves on a photo of the wall, in order, and play the sequence back at home or at the crag.

Free, with ads. No account, no sign-up.

Watch your beta climb

Press play and the figure climbs your sequence on the real wall, or step through it one move at a time. Go over it in your head before a redpoint, or follow it at the bottom of the route.

The beta is yours

The moves it plays are the ones you set, because Broken Crimp never tells you how to climb. Pick a hand or a foot on the dial and tap where it goes on the wall, move by move. Add the details of each move, like a heel hook or a drop knee, and the figure climbs it that way.

Set the climber's height for each beta, so the figure reaches what you reach. Keep your friend's beta beside yours on the same climb.

Add the hold details

Put the holds on the photo, or draw the climb on a blank canvas, from a catalogue of 37 types: crimps, jugs, slopers, pockets and volumes, plus the bolts, cams and nuts a trad line runs on. Give them nicknames, and add section dividers where the climb changes character. Draw them once, and every beta on that climb uses the same holds.

Then the details a drawing misses

Attach a close-up photo to a single hold, so you can see the exact edge you need. Leave yourself a voice note while it is fresh, and write down what went wrong last time. Tap the hold and it is all there, next to the moves that use it.

When it is ready, share it

Send the whole climb, photo, holds and every beta, to a friend as a file they open in their own app. Export a PDF to print, with a page per move, save the figure climbing the sequence as a video, or copy a plain list of the moves to paste into a message.

Back up everything to a single file you keep yourself.

Works where you climb

No signal at the crag, no problem. Everything works offline, and your climbs, photos and voice notes stay on your device. We run no servers.

Or in your browser

No install, no account. It saves in the browser on that device and runs offline once it has loaded. A .beta file opens in either version.

Free, with ads

Broken Crimp is free to use. A few ads keep it that way.

Never forget a move.
